Introduction to Red-eyed Tree Frogs

The red-eyed tree frog is one of the most iconic amphibians, easily recognizable by its vibrant green body, orange toes, and striking red eyes. Native to the rainforests of Central America, these frogs have adapted to a life spent mostly in trees, where they cling to leaves and branches with their sticky pads. Their bright colors act as a defense mechanism called “startle coloration,” which helps them avoid predators by surprising them with a sudden flash of vivid color.

These frogs are nocturnal, coming out at night to hunt insects and stay safe from predators. Red-eyed tree frogs play an essential role in the ecosystem by controlling insect populations and serving as food for other animals. Their fascinating appearance and unique adaptations make them a favorite subject of research and nature photography.
